FINAL REFLECTION

In my opinion, my level of english between first posts and latest, they haven't changed a lot.But maybe the latest are best explained than the others; recently I have used some new words or for example the conditional, that I didn't understand it very well before.

The activity which shows best my level of english, for me, is all the writings that are in this blog. Because I think my oral level is a bit bad...there are some times my pronunciation is so bad, I use a lot my catalan pronunciaton... it's difficult for me...Well, but I have to say I have improved!

For me the most useful activities have been to watch movies, because I can listen pronunciation better. And do this blog because I have written a lot and for this reason I've learnt to express better.

The worst activity has been the Workbook, because when I was doing it, I was all the time thinking it was very useless.  It's very "mechanical", you don't have to think a lot... So in my opinion, you don't learn with it, the truth is you get bored easily.

As I have said, I have liked do the blog. It's good because you can talk about things you love, but in my opinion his repercussion in the mark is low. It would have to count more, because is a lot of work!! So next year I hope we continue doing it.

Happy Holidays!!

JACK SPARROW RETURNS TO THE SCREENS!

Adventures of Jack Sparrow return again in the cinema, with new characters and on STRANGER TIDES.  Jack wants to find the Fountain of Youth, but he's captured by Queen Anne's Revenge, a ship of the pirate Barbanegra. He will live an incredible adventure which he don't know who inspires him more scare: Barbanegra or the woman of his past.

As the others movies about Pirates of the Caribbean, soundtrack and costume have impressed me a lot. The Soundtrack is terribly powerful, I love it. Only to hear it, you can carry yourself into the movie without any problems.

Also, the plot between the siren and the boy who loves her it is extremely nice. Well, all the plot is acceptable. At first, I thought that the movie wouldn't be good.. but after see it, I think that it isn't so bad.

Johnny Depp, as always, has done a wonderful interpretation. He lets you believe that all what happens in the movie is real. For me, this is one of the characteristics of a great actor.
I have to say that I don't like Penelope Cruz. In my opinion, all the movies that she has record, are basically the same plot. But now, I have to bow before her, because she has interpretated a different character, but I didn't like how she acts. For me, she overacts too much... but maybe there is only in my mind.

Apart from that, if I have to talk about something that disappointed me... I don't know. Maybe the plot is slow in some parts, but it is compensated for the funny moments. And there are a lot! Jack Sparrow always have a smile for us.

In summarize, it is a movie that all the people that love Pirates of the Caribbean have to see (or who love pirates stories!). In my opinion, it is better than 3th movie, for example. Maybe that happens because when I went to the cinema, I had the idea in my mind that the movie would be horrible... and it was everything better than expected.

Sorry but.. I have to say something... HE'S EXTREMELY HANDSOME! ♥

Goodbye 1st Batx!

Well, we are now close to summer. In my opinion, this year in Batxillerat has been very hard for me... I don't know how I can be alive. It has been very stressed, but I have met with new people too. I can't complain about marks, but I hope I can do better next year...

The most difficult school subjects this year for me have been: Maths (as always), and Economy. But for my surprise, I have passed maths with good marks! I can't believe it, because since always I haven't passed maths.. well, at last!!
Economy has been new for me, and in my opinion you have to swot up on this subject... I haven't a good memory, and that's a big problem for me.

A new subject that I have started this year and that I have liked has been Philosophy. I love it, it's incredible.. (except logical classes, because I don't understand nothing! it's very difficult to me... my logical is disgusting...) But when you talk about reality, about dreams, when you start to ask for all the tings... it's incredible for me. I love think about things, and philosophy classes let you do it.

This summer I have to do Research Work... oh my god. Luckily, I do a theme that I love: about Tim Burton. And I will have to record a short film. It will be very difficult for me, because it will be in stop-motion... uff, it will be very hard!
I would like to travel this summer, but I can't...  aish.

Sooo... That's my last your-say this year.  See you soon! :)

ORPHANED BEAR CUB IN SLOVENIA TUG OF LOVE

"An orphaned male bear cub which has charmed Slovenia with its antics since being adopted by a family faces removal to a wildlife shelter.

Family members have bonded with the cub, which is known to hug the family dog and play on the furniture. But officials fear the fourth-month-old cub could grow dangerous.
The family have asked for permission to build a fenced enclosure, to be more close to him.

The cub's story has captivated sections of the press in Slovenia, a mountainous Balkan state with a brown bear population."

I have been searching news, and all they were talking about misfortunes... and I found it! It's a nice and curious news. I want a bear too! It seems so sweet and funny... You can see it in this photo:

The family dog has been getting bear hugs!
But look at dog's face! I think he doesn't love him very much.. uhm...

Isn't it so sweet? I hope that the bear is happy in his new life!

Musicians have an important role in change society. Do you agree?

In my opinion, people can change the world or society, but most of them are "invisible" for the other people. So they need to be famous, to be recognized.

It seems to me that if this person is an important musician, can, of course, change society (or most of it). I think that people need to follow someone. Most of them believe in (and follow) God. The other people have their own person or thought, their own religion.

I also believe that great musicians can open your eyes, as for example Bob Dylan or John Lennon. Their songs talk about love and peace, about changing the world and society. And... what do the fans? They open their eyes because their idol, their own God has talked about it.

So, I agree with that. I believe that musicians (and other famous people with a lot of fans) can change society. I guess that musicians can do even more, because of music. Music is magic in my opinion; a series of musical notes can change your air and your thoughts. Is like being in a trance.

So... I hope that musicians can change society into a better thing.

INFECTED VEGETABLES

"So far 17 people have died from the bug in Germany, and it is suspected in another death. One also died in Sweden. All they because of E coli, which have been spread via contaminated raw cucumbers or tomatoes, but E coli usually inhabits the guts of cattle and sheep.
Germans are still being advised not to eat raw vegetables.

European health authorities are urgently trying to pinpoint the source of this epidemic. German scientists say they have decoded the new E. coli strain's genes, with help from a Chinese lab. It is a new hybrid form toxic to humans.

Nearly 500 infected people in Germany have got haemolytic-uraemic syndrome (HUS), which harms the kidneys and nervous system and can be fatal.

Spain says it will seek damages from Germany over initial claims that its produce was the source of the outbreak. Spanish PM Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said he would demand reparations for the economic losses suffered; spanish fruit and vegetable exporters estimate they are losing 200m euros ($290m; £177m) a week in sales."

Oh my god.. What lacked in Spain! "Luckily" the problem wasn't here. But it's terribly equally... In my opinion, trucks which transported cucumbers and tomatoes, have transported cattle before (they have the E coli) and the trucks haven't been perfectly cleaned.

There, I give a health advice. It's very important to know that:

   - Wash fruit and vegetables before eating them
   - Peel or cook fruit and vegetables
   -  Wash hands regularly to prevent person-to-person spread of E. coli strain

WE'RE INDIGNANT!

"Anger over Spain's dire economic situation has prompted thousands of people to fill Barcelona's famous Plaza de Catalunya following an attempt by riot police to break up an anti-government protest camp there.

City authorities said they needed to empty the square, which is popular among football fans, ahead of Saturday's Champions League final between Barcelona and Manchester United."

That's what is happening in my country, sadly. Politicians are the most terribly liars and the banks are thief. And tell me.. what can we do? To me, it's wonderful that people have got up and have started to move. If I could, I would go in Barcelona right now! (well, there's well, there's in all Spain the revolution, but I only say Barcelona because it's in my "territory")

Moreover, I think that Felip Puig is a son of a bi***. It's extremely inhuman say that you are going to "clean" Plaça Catalunya and do this... that's how you clean your house, Felip? it was very sadly see in television how the police hit innocent people. And the worst of all.. the excuse was the match between Barça and Manchester!

"Daddy.. what have you done in your job tomorrow?
- I've beaten to the people who demanded a better future for you!"

I can't say anymore... I only hope a better future for all.

PODCAST: DIALOGUE

Paula De Scheemaeker: Jamie & Polly
Natàlia Sellés: Tania

Happy Birtdhay Victor! :)

Last 25th May was my best friend Victor's birthday. I didn't buy him something because he lives in Barcelona and I can't give it to him... so I started more than one month before to create a story. I created a character called Nowhere Girl. This name is because of in this moment I was listening the song Nowhere Man of the Beatles, and that inspirated me. I started to created her with wire, wet toilet paper, plasticine and clothes of the Bratz!

There's one photo of her:

I had to make three faces: one with the eyes closed, the other with the eyes opened, and the last with a smile... I had to changed her head a lot of times to create the stop motion! It was hard, but the result it's good... (but I think that it could be better!)

Nowhere girl and me!

I'm extremely glad. I showed it on Facebook and a lot of people congratulated me. They said to me that it was a great job, and it was very wonderful for me because I was recording it for a long time and it was very hard... and also because I want to do it for the rest of my life. I want to study Audiovisual Communication :) So after to read the comments, I was happy, because before I had lost all my hopes...

If you want, there's the video:

I learned some english recording it too, thanks to the songs that I have put in it. Nowhere Man of the Beatles have a lot of vocabulary that I didn't hear before, and in the video I have put some phrases in english too.

By the way, in the video you can see a big comment in a mysterious language... it's a language that Victor and me have created, called Yerzlev. Only we can know what is in the text!

Victor said to me that he loved so much the video... he said to me that it was his favorite movie! so the result it's GREAT! That was my objective :)

ORAL PRESENTATION: HUNGER IN THE WORLD

We have got some problems with the video.. so we only have the powerpoint and the transcription. Sorry!

TRANSCRIPTION:

Paula:

We are Paula and Natalia and our presentation talks about hunger in the world. We have chosen this theme because we think that is really shocking that there are 16.000 (sixteen thousand) children in the world who die everyday because of hunger. This means one child dies every five seconds.
Our principal objectives were find the causes about it and learn more about hunger, because we think that it’s a really big problem actually and it’s been it for a long time ago.

Mundial hunger is one of the biggest problems of our world today. The cause of the hunger is that, the people who suffer it, don’t have enough food to eat, and to feed their children and family. They have less than 1.9 kcal. Because of that, a lot of people die everyday, and we waste a lot of food.

954.000.000 (nine hundred fifty four milion) people in the world are underfed. 820.000.000 (eight hundred twenty milion) of these people are in developing countries.

As you can see in this graphic, the most part of poverty is in Asia and the Pacific. Then, there are Sub-Saharian Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Near Est and North Africa, and finally there are poverty too in the developed countries.

There are many causes for hunger. One of them are the naturals causes.
People who lives in areas very cold or very hot, have more problems to obtain food, because there's no good land to plant vegetables.
Moreover, the problem is that the land is not being used efficiently enough.
Economical causes: Most of food is produced in developed nations, like the United States. For it to get to countries that need it, there are huge expenses in packaging, transporting, and distributing this food.

Sociocultural causes:
Many times, there are underlying cultural beliefs which prevent progress, as religion.
For example, in South Asia, society holds women responsible for all the key actions required to end hunger. But at the same time, trough laws, custom and tradition, women are denied the resources and the freedom of action to carry on these responsibilities. So it's not that women are incapable of making progress, it's simply that they are restricted by their own culture.

Natalia:
One question is.. there's food for all the people? and the answer is, yes there's.Yet there is plenty of food in the world for everyone. The problem is that hungry people are trapped in severe poverty. They haven't got much money to buy enough food to eat. It causes that they become ill, and this makes that them can't work, which then makes them even poorer and hungrier.
Hunger causes some diseases:

AIDS (Sida): AIDS kills a little less than 2 million people a year, or about one person every 17 seconds.
The worst number of dead is in Africa.
Pneumonia: it kills more than 2 million children each year in poor countries.
Pneumonia is contagious and is commonly transmitted when an infected person coughs.
Diarrheal and cholera kill about 1.6 million people each year, almost all of them children. Diarrhea is most often a result of unclean water, unsafe sanitation, or poor hygiene.
Tuberculosis: is highly contagious and spreads through the air from coughing. If not treated, a person with tuberculosis infects of 10 to 15 people each year.
Malaria: over a million people die from malaria each year. It's spread by mosquitoes.
Close to 90% of malaria causes occur in Africa.

In the PAST: Major hunger problems have occurred through history, leaving millions of people dead or suffering from the effects of hunger.
In the FUTURE: The problem of world hunger can be solved. But we have to act, because it will be increased if we continue so, and it will cause serious consequences on children, society and the future of humanity.
There's some measures to solve hunger:
  • For adults, there are “food for work” programs where the adults are paid with food to build schools, make roads... This both nourishes them and builds infrastructure to end the poverty. For children, there are “food for education” programs where the children are provided with food when they attend school.
  • Also, we can reduce or eliminate the transportation costs. If food is produced closer to where it is needed, costs are much lower.
  • Companies need to realize that in order to make more money in these less developed regions, they must invert more as well.

Well, that's our oral presentation... there's any question?

    OPINION ABOUT OUR ORAL PRESENTATION:

I think that it wasn't so bad. I was a little nervous, as always.. but in my opinion it was good!

Brian's Birthday!

Last 6th May was Brian's Birthday. Between all, we bought him an Ocarina, as the one of Zelda Ocarina of Time. He said to me that he wanted an ocarina... so we bought it! It cost about 90 euros... wow. But well, we were a lot of people colaborating!
There's the ocarina:

It's the same as Link have in the game. Be friki.. :D

I went to his house and I gave him the instrument with one letter signed by all.  I think that he was very suprised! ^^ After it, we all went to Figueres, because there was "Barraques" and the "amusement park". It was very funny, but I had a problem: no one wanted to go with me in the biggest roller coasters.. and I had to go alone... it isn't so funny if you go alone, but well...
It was a great day ^^ and my Brian is 17 years old now!!

Last year we also went to the "amusement park", and after we went to the cinema. I didn't know Brian very well, but because of his birthday (and other reasons) I started to know much better Brian, and I'm so glad of it :) it was an incredible discovery!

Story about a dream

I was listening music at home when my friend Pau arrived. He told me that she had to travel to London before it got dark. He asked me if I wanted to go with him and I, obviously, accepted it. Afterwards, we took a submarine. It was very strange, but we go to London with a yellow submarine.

While we were traveling, the submarine started to lose his control. We were terribly scared. At that moment, the submarine crashed and I misteriously appeared in a strawberry field.

I looked around me for a long time, but I didn't see anything. Suddenly, a beautiful girl appeared over my head. She was flying! She was wearing a dress full of diamonds, and she told me that her name was Lucy. She smiled at me, and afterwards, I appeared in a new place; it was a cementery. I was walking for a long time. Later, I saw a big and spectacular tomb. The tomb had a name: Eleanor Rigby. I was looking at the name, when suddenly another girl appeared behind me. She told me: all the lonely people... where do they all come from? All the lonely people... where do they all belong?
I couldn't understand what she was telling me.

The place changed again. Where was I? I felt extremely lost. I was relaxing when I saw a hughe octopus. I started to run, but actually, I couldn't move my legs at all. The enormous octopus was looking at me, and he told me: you're in the Octopus Garden. I mean, my garden!!

Suddenly, I woke up. I still was at home, listening to The Beatles. It was a dream which listening to that music came to my head. I dreamt with their songs!!

Informal Letter

C/Nowhere num.8
Sant Peter Fisherman
8th March 2011

Dear Kieron,

I'm glad to hear about you. Thanks for your letter! Sorry I haven't written for so long but I've been very busy.

You've asked me what places you can go. In my opinion, you have to go to Paris (and to Disneyland, of course!). There, you can go to the Eiffel Tower, and to the Louvre Museum. I know that you love architecture and art in general, so you must go there!

By the way, you have to go to Notre Dame's Cathedral (maybe you'll see Cuasimodo!).
Definetely, if you go to Paris, you must go to Disneyland. It's magic! I'm sure you'll be a child again, and I'm sure too that you'll enjoy it a lot.

And Kieron, you have to know that I want to go to Ireland to visit you. (I hope that you'll still be there when I come with you).

My parents have bought me a puppie, so if we travel to Ireland, we'll have to bring him! It's so beautiful... his name is Sírius.

Well, that's all for now. I'll phone you someday! Bye for now, my friend... I'm looking forward too seeing you!

Love,

Natàlia.

Eleanor Rigby

Eleanor Rigby is a song of the Beatles that I love. It appears in the movie "Yellow Submarine" and it talks about a woman called Eleanor Rigby, who's thinking about all the lonely people. The name of Eleanor Rigby has a curious story. Paul had as a objective a name for one song that would be publicated in the next album of the band, Revolver. At first he took the first name, Eleanor, because the name of the actrice Eleanor Born, and after the name of Rigby, for a shop of Bristol.

Paul was very suprised when he saw the name of Eleanor Rigby in a tomb,  in the cementery of Woolton. It appeared too the name of McKenzie, who in the song is the priest of the church when the story happens.

The song  caught my atention because it's very strange. The Beatles normally played happy songs which talked about love. The style and the lyrics were different...

I guess that this song impressed me because I'm like Eleanor Rigby in some aspects. Since always I have been in my own world seeing the outside without understand the most of things. I always have been asking about the people: who are, where are they going, what are their destiny?

Apart from that, the melody is incredible. It makes me dream... it's very powerful and melancolic at the same time! I don't know how the Beatles could do that.. but they were very incredible...

Someday I'll record a short film about it :_)

Rock's museum in Barcelona

On Easter Holidays (On Wednesday) I went to the Rock’s museum in Les Arenes (Barcelona) with my friends. It was incredible. I want to live into “Beatles Room”. I was looking all the objects that are there; guitars signed by Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen,  … and my friend Pau said to me: turn around. I did it, and I saw my paradise: the Beatles Room. There were a lot of things of them: guitars, clothes, posters,… a lot of things that they signed and that they have touched. Moreover, there was a big screen with videos of them. Really, I WANT TO LIVE THERE! John, Paul, Ringo and George are very nices :3

There were the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen and National Rock rooms. Then, there were a lot of things about other musicians and bands, as AC/DC, Metallica, Jimi Hendrix,… a wonderful place for who loves good music.

There, you could make “xapes” I made it about the Beatles! My friends made a lot too. We became friends of the workes of the museum. They said to us that if we wanted to go there again at the afternoon, they’ll let enter free. They are very kind!

We stayed about 2 hours in the museum, and after we went to have lunch at Burger King. Then, we went to FNAC, and we bought some things. I bought one CD of the Beatles, and two movies: Batman Returns and The Phantom of the Opera.

In the FNAC, there were pianos and guitars to prove, and we stayed there playing instruments. Then, we walked for Barcelona, and finally we went to the train to came home, so we had to say goodbye to Victor.

My own paradise!

BON JOVI - HAPPY NOW

Bon Jovi is one of my favorites bands. I'm happy because on 27th July I'll go there with Aura, Varela and Pau. It will be legendary! I prefer the old songs than the new, but well. Moreover, Jon Bon Jovi was so hot with long hair!!! ♥ In my opinion he has to let his hair grow up again... It would be great.

Now I'm going to translate only one of their songs, because otherwise I would die. But I think that all them are incredible, I love them!

It's hard to choose a song... but finally I'm going to translate "Happy Now". This song is very special for me. It reflects very well my thoughts... Pau show to me this song, because I didn't listen it before, so thank you my little racoon!

What would you say to me, // Que em diries
If I told you I had a dream, // Si et digués que vaig tenir un somni
If I told you everything, // Si t'ho digués tot
Would you tell me to go back to sleep. // Em diries que me'n torni a dormir?
Take a look in these tired eyes, // Fixa't en aquests ulls cansats
They're coming back to life, // Estan tornant a la vida
I know I can change, // Sé que puc canviar
Got hope in my veins, // Tinc esperança dins les meves venes,
I tell you I ain't going back to the pain. // Et dic que no estic tornant al dolor.
Can I be happy now?, // Puc ser feliç ara?
Can I let my breath out?, // Puc deixar fora el meu respir?
Let me believe, // Deixa'm creure
I'm building a dream, // que estic construint un somni
Don't try to drag me down. // No intentis arrossegar-me cap a baix...
I just wanna scream out loud, // Només vull cridar fort
Can I be happy now?, // Puc ser feliç ara?
Went down on my knees, // Em vaig agenollar
I learned how to bleed, // Vaig apendre a sangrar
I'm turning my world around. // Estic girant el meu món al voltant
Can I be happy now?, // Puc ser feliç ara?
Can I break free somehow?, // Puc alliberar-me d'alguna manera?
I just wanna live again, // Només vull viure de nou
Love again, // Estimar de nou
Take my pride off off of the ground. // Agafar el meu orgull del terra
Im ready to pick a fight, // Estic preparat per entrar en acció
Crawl out of the dark to shine a light, // Per gatejar fora de la foscor per il·luminar una llum
I ain't throwing stones, // No estic llançant pedres
Got sins of my own, // Tinc pecats per el meu compte
And everybody just trying to find their way home. // I tothom està intentant trobar el seu camí cap a casa

You're born and you die, and it's gone in a minute, // Tu neixes tu mors, i tot se'n va en un minut
I ain't looking back, // No miro enrere
'cause I don't wanna miss it, // Perquè no m'ho vull perdre
You better live now, // Millor viu ara,
Cause no one's gonna get out alive, alive. // Perquè ningú en sortirà viu
Can I be happy now?, // Puc ser feliç ara?
Can I let my breath out?, // Puc deixar fora el meu respir?
Let me believe, // Deixa'm creure
I'm building a dream, // que estic construint un somni
Don't try to drag me down. // No intentis arrossegar-me cap a baix..
I'm turning my world around. // Estic girant el meu món al voltant

In my opinion, everyone of us have asked this question: can we be happy now?

ORAL PRESENTATION: NEW ZEALAND

We have bad luck. In the oral presentation, the camera stopped to record, and now we have had some problems with the audacity to record our voices as you've said... So sorry, but we only put the powerpoint and the transcription, because there isn't more time, and because we are stressed with all this.

POWERPOINT:

TRANSCRIPTION:

Hello everybody, we are Natàlia and Brian and we're going to talk about New Zealand, a country that we love.

In this oral presentation we'll talk about the the interesting places to visit there, and after we'll talk about the wildlife and vegetation of New Zealand.

- The interesting places to visit are:
Auckland:  It's in the North Island, and it concentrates the main economic and commercial activity in the country. It's an excellent destination for lovers of sailing and of the waters.
His most significant building is the Sky Tower, with 328 meters tall. You can see great paronamic views in the top.
It has numerous parks as Auckland Domain, located in the heart of the city. You can also taking a ferry to visit Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. where you can do a lot of activities in the nature.

Wellington: It's the capital of New Zealand. There are a lot of historics buildings, and for the nature lovers, they can visit the Johnsonville Park and the Botanic Garden, famous for his beautiful water-lily pond.
In Carter Observatory, you can see the stars and galaxies from an old telescope, it must be incredible!
There's the Civic Square, that is a social and cultural center where there are a lot of outdoor cafes.

Christchurch: Is a city that have got a great and important Anglican cathedral in the center. In the center, you can also go shopping, visit the cathedral, or enjoy the beautiful parks and gardens.
It has got a great views of the mountains, and it's a great place to relax.

Now I'm going to talk about the national parks. New Zealand has got 14 national parks, but I'll talk about the most importants.

Tongariro National Park: Is one of the most interesting places in New Zealand. Is an active volcano's park, and there are the ski resorts in the center of North Island.
The journey on foot from the park is 8 hours, and it has an incredible blue lake in the middle, and it's known because it appears in the movie The Lord of the Rings as Mórdor.

Paparoa National Park:  Is located in the northwest of the South Island. It's a cave that is open to the public, and his exploration takes hour and a half.
The rocks that are inside, have been sculptured with interesting forms by nature.

Fiordland National Park: Is the most turistic destiny. The park has got the fame of be considerated the most beautiful hiking of the world.

Finally, Matamata: In my opinion, that's very special for the fans of The Lord of the Rings, because there are the scaled version of the village of the Hobbits. The site, used and decorated for the film, became in a turistic destiny.
Hobbits houses are open to the public, but there aren't any decoration inside. Also, there are an hotel as a Hobbit's house, where you can accomodate.
There are some tourist routes of The Lord of the Rings in New Zealand, where you can see the most famous landscapes and places that appears in the movie.

After the interesting places that Brian has said, now I'm going to talk about the wild life and vegetation of New Zealand.
One characteristic of the wildlife in New Zealand is that there are animals that only lives there, so now we'll talk of them.

Kiwi: It's a bird that doesn't fly, because they almost haven't got wings. They have got big and strong legs, so they can walk and run through the vegetation without problems.
The main predators of the Kiwis are birds such as eagles and falcons, but the Kiwi can hides very well in the woods. Moreover they are nocturnal animals, so they can't be seen for the predators.
One curiosity is that their name was the inspiration for the fruit, for the hairy skin.

Tuatara: Is a reptil cold blooded that only lives in New Zealand, in the small islands around the country. They live about 100 years, and their descent is of the time of the dinosaurs, and for that they are considered a "living fossil". However, they are protected because they are at risk of extinction.
One curiosity is that Tuatara breeding have got a third eye on his forehead, between the other two. When they grow up, this eye is covered.

Kakapo: Because of the absence of terrestrial predators, they lost the ability of fly, so they are the only parrot that can't fly in the world, and also the largest parrots.
They are at risk of extinction, with only ninety-one specimens in the world.

Yellow-eyed Penguin: They only live in the South Island, and they are considered one of the world's rarest penguin species.
The current status of this penguin is endangered, with a population of four thousand (4000)

One characteristic of New Zealand is the vegetation. There are a lot of plants, and for me it's interesting to talk about them.

Kauri trees: They are totally protected in New Zealand. Kauri Trees are one of the largest trees in the world, reaching over 50 meters tall, and the diameter of the trunk has 16 meters.
In the North Island, you can see Kauri Trees about thousand five hundred (1500) years old. The antecedents of the kauri appeared during the Jurassic period.

Potuhukawa Tree: It flowers from November in New Zealand.
They have got red flowers around Christmas time, and for this reason, they are known as Christmas Tree.
One curiosity is that Maoris used their nectar to do medicinal remedies.
Finally, Potuhukawa Tree lives around thousand (1000) years.

Ferns: There are a lot of forests of them in New Zealand. The more famous is Silver Fern, whose leafs are silver gray. The Silver Fern is a symbol of New Zealand, and it appears in the official shirt of the selection of Rugby, All Blacks.
There are Koru, that is another kind of Fern. It's a spiral, and it symbolizes new life, peace and growth.

Finally, the Actinidia Chinensis; It came from China, but it was introduced in New Zealand because it produces edible food, the kiwi, which all we know.

Well, and this is our oral presentation about New Zealand. There are any questions?

SELF-AVALUATION
I was nervous, as always, because I hate do oral presentations. It's horrible. But in my opinion, it was better than expected. I suppose that's because I know all these things about New Zealand, and so it was more easy for me.
